Small Campervan Kitchen Units & Slim Kitchen Pods

888Camper · furniture buying guide

In a compact campervan kitchen, depth can matter as much as width. The NOMAD 900 Slim offers a plain worktop, two cupboard doors and three fixed shelves in a unit just 310 mm deep. Use this guide to compare its footprint with the larger NOMAD 1100 and plan storage without overlooking the room you need to move around it.

Dimensions at a glance

All sizes below are overall dimensions. Internal openings and usable compartments depend on the panel layout.

A shallow kitchen unit for a restricted layout

The NOMAD 900 Slim measures 900 mm wide, 310 mm deep and 850 mm high. Its 15 mm plywood construction has a natural wood appearance, with an open back, integrated finger pulls and a recessed toe space. The worktop is plain, with no sink or appliance cutouts.

The shallower footprint makes this model worth comparing when furniture faces a bed, seating or a walking route. Whether it works in your van depends on the finished space and the equipment you want to use. It is a dimension-based option rather than a kitchen advertised as a guaranteed fit for a specific van model.

Compare depth before deciding by width alone

The NOMAD 1100 is 550 mm deep, compared with the Slim unit's 310 mm. That is a 240 mm difference in the front-to-back footprint. The Slim is also 200 mm narrower. Both are 850 mm high, so you can compare their floor rectangles and worktop positions on the same measured drawing.

As a simple layout calculation, subtract the unit depth and any opposing furniture depth from the measured finished interior width. The result is a starting estimate of the remaining gap, before allowing for projections, curved walls and door movement. Draw the actual positions rather than treating that number as a complete fitment check.

Decide what a small kitchen must do every day

A compact kitchen needs clear priorities. List the activities that matter most, such as preparing food, keeping tableware together or having an accessible place for pantry containers. Check that the plain worktop and internal cupboard layout support those jobs without filling every available surface with loose equipment.

The NOMAD 900 has two doors and three fixed shelves. Compare your containers with the layout shown on the product page, and ask about any critical internal dimension. If you plan separate appliances, check their size and installation requirements first. The available worktop footprint does not, on its own, establish that a particular sink, cooker or fridge arrangement will work.

Add focused storage without making the kitchen deeper

A separate shelf or cupboard may solve a specific storage need more neatly than choosing a deeper kitchen unit. The smallest open shelf is 500 × 200 × 200 mm. The NOMAD 300 cupboard measures 300 × 300 × 850 mm and has one door with two fixed shelves. Each takes space in a different direction.

These products are separate furniture choices rather than a prescribed compact-kitchen bundle. Check door clearance, the position of windows and access from the bed or seating. For an option above floor level, overhead lockers are 250 mm deep and high, but they also need allowance for roof curvature and opening doors.

Mock up the layout before choosing the final size

Mark the kitchen footprint on the floor and make a simple cardboard profile at worktop height. Move through the van, open neighbouring furniture and check the arrangement with the bed in its sleeping position. This can reveal awkward corners or access problems that are easy to miss on a top-down sketch.

The NOMAD kit includes pre-cut panels, all hardware required to build it, including soft-close hinges, and an illustrated guide. Vehicle mounting fittings, tools and appliances are separate. When you have a shortlist, use the product pages for current prices and specifications, or send your measurements through the contact page for clarification.

Before you choose your furniture

  • Compare 310 mm and 550 mm unit depths on your floor plan.
  • Measure the remaining space beside furniture in its normal position.
  • Check the intended containers against the fixed cupboard layout.
  • Test access with the bed extended and cupboard doors open.

Your questions answered

How deep is the slim campervan kitchen unit?

The NOMAD 900 Slim is 310 mm deep, 900 mm wide and 850 mm high. The larger NOMAD 1100 is 550 mm deep, 1100 mm wide and 850 mm high.

Is the NOMAD 300 a small kitchen pod?

The NOMAD 300 is a compact storage cupboard with a plain top, one door and two fixed shelves. Its 300 × 300 mm footprint is useful to compare as additional storage, but it is a different product from the two NOMAD kitchen units.

Can I fit a sink into the Slim worktop?

The unit is supplied with a plain worktop and no appliance cutouts. Suitability for any alteration depends on the sink dimensions, clearances and the furniture layout. Confirm those details before choosing the unit for that purpose.
