888Camper · furniture buying guide
Good camper van storage starts with the equipment you carry and how you use it. A shelf, floor-standing cupboard and overhead locker solve different problems. Explore the 888Camper plywood furniture range, compare the space each design needs, and build a storage layout around the way you cook, sleep and spend time in your van.

Start with an equipment list, then choose the furniture
Group your belongings before choosing a storage unit. Keep everyday kitchen equipment together, separate clothing from cleaning products, and identify awkward items that need a particular opening or depth. A useful list records both the item dimensions and how often you need to reach it. This makes it easier to decide what deserves the most accessible space.
Walk through a normal day in your proposed layout. Where will breakfast supplies go? Can you reach clothing while the bed is made? Is there a home for loose objects when you are ready to travel? These questions help you use a small interior more effectively than choosing every cupboard simply because it fills a gap.
Open shelves for visible, everyday storage
Campervan shelves give direct access to their contents without opening a cupboard door. The 888Camper shelf range comes in eight widths from 500 to 1200 mm, with either 200 mm or 300 mm depth and matching height. All 16 designs use 18 mm plywood, a curved retaining front, an open top and an open back.
The shallower format can suit smaller containers where you want to limit the projection into the room. The deeper format offers a larger overall compartment for bulkier items. Check actual container sizes and remember that a retaining front is not a complete restraint system for travel. Our camper van shelving guide explains the differences in more detail.
Cupboards for organised storage behind a door
A cupboard gives you a defined place for items you would rather keep behind a front panel. The NOMAD 300 is a compact storage tower with one door and two fixed shelves, measuring 300 × 300 × 850 mm. Its small floor footprint makes it a useful option to assess beside a larger unit, provided door access remains clear.
If kitchen storage and a worktop are both priorities, the NOMAD 900 Slim and NOMAD 1100 combine those functions. All three NOMAD units use 15 mm plywood and have open backs. Compare the cupboard layouts by shelf arrangement and outside dimensions, rather than treating every litre of theoretical space as equally accessible.
Overhead lockers and the space above floor level
An overhead locker offers a different position for storage when the floor plan is already busy. Our lockers are 250 mm deep and 250 mm high, with widths from 500 to 1200 mm. Each has two top-hinged doors and a centre divider, in 18 mm plywood.
These units have an open back and open top, so they need to be considered as part of the surrounding interior. Measure the wall and roof profile at the intended position and allow room for both doors to open. Check head clearance near seats, beds and passageways. See the overhead cupboard guide for a more detailed planning checklist.
Combine storage types without losing everyday access
One possible layout starts with a kitchen unit for preparation and cupboard storage, then adds a shallow shelf for frequently used containers. Another uses the compact NOMAD 300 alongside an overhead locker to split storage between two areas. These are combinations to assess against your measurements, not pre-approved layouts or bundled kits.
Test your plan with the bed extended, seats in their usual positions and furniture doors open. Keep access to existing equipment and service points in mind. Before checkout, compare the product specifications, review what is included and confirm the delivery option for your postcode. Before you choose your furniture
- List the objects that need a home, including their size and frequency of use.
- Separate open-access storage from items you want behind doors.
- Measure at the actual mounting height, including wall and roof curves.
- Check access in daytime and sleeping layouts before choosing widths.
Your questions answered
What campervan storage furniture is available?
The current 888Camper range includes 16 shelf sizes, eight overhead locker widths, two NOMAD kitchen units and the NOMAD 300 cupboard. Each is available as a separate flat-pack product.
Do all camper cupboards include soft-close hinges?
Yes. Our current camper furniture with doors includes all hardware needed to build the unit, including soft-close hinges. Shelves have no doors or hinges. Vehicle-specific mounting fittings are separate.
Can I use the furniture in an existing conversion?
Compare the product dimensions with your finished interior and check access for assembly and positioning. Existing lining, furniture and services can affect the available space. The furniture is selected by dimensions rather than guaranteed fitment to a van model.
